This is a used Dell Optiplex 745 that I bought locally for cheap that I have since upgraded to be a decent office/entry-level gaming machine, with a quad-core Q6700 (the best CPU for this PC), 8GB of RAM, an SSD, and a GT 730. When I first got the PC, I was sure to clean everything in the system, making sure there wasn’t a spec of dust in sight. I also replaced the thermal paste on the chipset heatsink, replaced the CMOS battery, and installed new rubber screws for the fan. I left the hard drive in that came with the PC, but I did a zero-wipe of it, so it’s clean. I have updated the PC’s motherboard to the latest BIOS, and installed and activated Windows 10 Pro (OEM key) on the SSD, making sure to install all of the drivers that I could for this system (which in this case was just the Intel chipset drivers and the Nvidia drivers for the GT 730, with the rest being handled by Windows). I then made sure everything was working as it should be by playing some Crysis on this machine, which as a game is kinda a worse-case scenario for a machine of this caliber. As kinda expected, with everything set to “Low”, motion blur off, no AA, at 1080p, I was usually getting around 30fps at all times, sometimes dropping to the 20s, and sometimes rising to the 40s. It was still completely playable, though, and I had fun running around and punching people to death in-game. P I did notice one crash while playing, but that was early on, and in the remaining few hours that I was playing, I didn’t experience any other issues. Going to say it was a game issue. Oh, and if you are wondering, I have of course uninstalled Crysis. I have also installed Google Chrome and 7-zip, fully updated Windows 10, and did some other very minor tweaks for convenience’s sake. Here’s a break-down of the price of the system.
